ChildsTurn.com Launches Free Resource Directory for Special Needs Children

6/23/2010

Hawthorne, June 23, 2010 – Child’s Turn, an advocacy organization focused on children with special needs, today announced the launch of its eponymous website, www.childsturn.com, as well as plans to open regional centers in or near Los Angeles, New York,  Dallas, Chicago, San Jose, Phoenix, and Boston. With one of the Internet’s largest searchable directories of service providers for special needs children - such as therapists, mental health counselors, and psychologists - Child’s Turn’s website seeks to become the Internet’s preeminent portal for disabled children and their families to find professional help.

“We created Child’s Turn to help children,” said Child’s Turn CEO Dan Zaharoni.  “Diagnoses of autism, Asperger’s syndrome, ADD, ADHD, and a myriad of other disabilities are increasing dramatically.  With our service, families can quickly find the education and services they require for their child’s ongoing needs.”

Child’s Turn offers its visitors a nationwide database of service providers that includes not only minimum contact information, but also resumes, publications, comprehensive background data, images and a rating system for the providers listed on Child’s Turn’s website.  Site visitors can search for providers based on the service or condition in which they have a specific interest.  The directory allows experts such as advocates, recreational services and medical facilities to list their particular practice area in addition to specifying the individual conditions that they are qualified to treat, e.g., epilepsy, tourette’s or down syndrome.

Zaharoni commented on the wealth of information that will be available on the site.  “When you choose your child’s therapist, you want more than just a phone number,” he said.  “You want to know who they are, where they came from and what they’ve done.  You are entrusting your child to these people and you need to thoroughly examine that person’s background.  With our site, that’s exactly what you can do.”

The website further aggregates content from some of the largest information resources on the web, such as Autism Speaks, National Institute of Health, Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD), National Attention Deficit Disorder Association and more.

Child’s Turn also offers original content through its mini-documentary series, “The World According To….” which documents the lives of disabled children, and other means, such as the site’s blog, featured articles and community message board.

“When someone tells you that your child has a disability, many parents don’t know where to go.  We intend to create a community where your questions can be answered quickly and you can find the people and information that will be critical to helping your child live a fulfilling life,” said Zaharoni.
